Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), commonly known as Tapping, is a therapeutic method that combines elements of cognitive therapy and exposure therapy with acupressure. It involves tapping on specific meridian points on the body, primarily on the face and hands, while focusing on a particular issue or distressing memory. The goal is to reduce emotional intensity and reprogram the brain’s response to negative stimuli.
The process begins by identifying a specific problem, such as a limiting belief or emotional block. While verbally acknowledging the issue, the individual taps on designated points that correspond to energy pathways in traditional Chinese medicine. This tapping is believed to send calming signals to the amygdala, the brain’s fear center, thereby reducing the fight-or-flight response.
By combining focused attention on the problem with physical stimulation of meridian points, EFT helps to interrupt the body’s stress response and allows for emotional release. Over time, this can lead to the unblocking of old behavioral patterns, as the brain forms new neural connections free from past emotional triggers. Many users report increased emotional resilience, reduced anxiety, and improved overall well-being after consistent practice of EFT. While research is ongoing, EFT is considered a promising tool for emotional healing and behavior change.
